HOW TO USE THIS TOOL
Start by entering the name or type of your machine — for example, “hydraulic press” or “conveyor belt.” Select the most appropriate machine category to help narrow results, then add a short description of your machine’s function, key features, or specific hazards. The tool will match your input against the current list of harmonised standards published under the Machinery Directive and return the most relevant results.
Disclaimer: This tool is provided as a guidance resource only and does not constitute professional compliance advice. Results are based on the current list of harmonised standards published under the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and may not reflect recent updates or amendments. It does not account for all variables that may apply to your specific machine or application. A competent person should always be consulted when determining applicable standards for machinery compliance and certification. WHAT ARE HARMONISED STANDARDS?
Harmonised standards are European standards that have been formally linked to EU legislation — in this case, the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). When a manufacturer applies a harmonised standard to their machine, it creates a presumption of conformity with the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) covered by that standard. This can significantly streamline the path to CE marking and market certification.
The challenge is that there are hundreds of harmonised standards, and identifying which ones apply to your specific machine type can be time-consuming. Our free Harmonised Standards Finder simplifies this process. Enter your machine name, select a category, and provide a brief description — the tool will return a list of potentially relevant harmonised standards to consider during your conformity assessment.
