Our clients come to us because they need expert help- whether that’s because they don’t have it currently in-house, or because their existing H&S resource is rushed off their feet.
Another reason, is that our clients are “between hires”. They’re recruiting for an internal H&S manager, but they need boots on the ground, overseeing H&S, right now.
This is who our Interim Health and Safety Manager Service is crafted for.
The Service
Under the 1974 Act, employers are required to appoint a “competent person” to help you meet your health and safety legal duties. They should have the skills, knowledge and experience to be able to identify hazards within a business, and help put sensible controls in place to protect workers and others from harm.
Our Interim Health and Safety Manager (IHSM) service fulfils this requirement on behalf of your business.
Principally, we offer a short-term, flexible solution that provides organisations with competent H&S leadership and operational support.
Our interim service provides you with confidence, compliance, and a functioning H&S management system, without the commitment of a permanent hire.
Who needs an Interim Health and Safety Manager?
Our IHSM service is perfect for businesses of any size, or industry. It’s ideal for businesses that:
- Have no in-house Health & Safety Manager,
- Are between hires and need continuity,
- Are growing and temporarily need higher-level H&S expertise,
- Require risk assessment development, updated procedures, or compliance uplift,
- Need help preparing for audits, client accreditations, or regulatory scrutiny.
Service Components
Our IHSM service is tailored to your needs- whether that’s starting from H&S management “ground zero”, filling in the gaps, or simply keeping the engine ticking over. Our aim is always to deliver exactly what you need, based on maintaining legal compliance and ensuring best practice.
Core components of the service include:
Site Profiling and Compliance Review
We carry out a baseline assessment of your H&S management system (HSMS), including both the “aspirational” side (i.e. policy and procedure) and the “practical” side (i.e. what’s actually happening in practice).
We identify the gaps in provisions, shortfalls in activities, and prioritise remedial actions.
Risk Assessment Management
We’ll create, review and maintain your risk assessments, across your site environments, activities, individuals, and equipment.
We can develop bespoke RAMS packs, and review contractor RAMS documents.
COSHH Management
We review your existing COSHH management provisions (i.e. register, MSDS database, COSHH assessments), as well as assess your real-world hazardous substances- and cross reference them all. We then identify potential substitutes, appropriate controls, and carry out additional COSHH assessments as required.
Policy & Procedure Writing
We can develop or entirely overhaul your procedures, ensuring they reflect actual activities, and enable safe yet functional operations.
We can audit for compliance against your internal procedures.
Other Service Features
The role of a H&S manager is varied and diverse; and we offer a wide range of additional services to ensure H&S is managed effectively, such as:
- Accident and incident investigation and reporting,
- Chairing/facilitating H&S meetings,
- Liaising with contractors,
- Provision of toolbox talks and briefings,
- Carrying out H&S audits and workplace inspections,
- Oversight of H&S related projects.
Benefits Of The Service
With our IHSM service, you get more than compliance and HSMS structure. You get immediate access to competent safety leadership. No waiting for contractual notification periods to lapse- we can get onto your site in as early as one week.
You can save money as well as time, by skipping the costs of recruitment associated with a protracted hiring process.
You maintain client confidence and fulfil contractual obligations.
And you can quit when you want. Found someone ready to work full time? No problem, just let us know, and we’ll prepare a formal hand-over plan and get your new hire up to speed.
Service Delivery
So what does our IHSM service look like in practice? Well, by nature, it varies as it is tailored, however typically, it will look like this:
Initial 30-Day Phase
Starting with a kick-off meeting with site manager(s), we’ll then carry out a document and RAMS review, followed by a baseline safety assessment. From this, we’ll produce a short and long-term improvement plan.
Ongoing Monthly Delivery
We continue to attend site as agreed. We’ll liaise with our site contact, or simply crack on in the background, delivering the agreed objectives.
Reporting & Communication
Every month, we’ll provide you with a report detailing H&S management activities carried out. We’ll update your H&S action tracker, and provide a quarterly review.
