GLOSSARY

Notified Body

A notified body is an independent organisation designated by an EU member state to assess higher-risk machinery before it can be CE marked.

Only a small set of machinery categories require one; the rest is self-certified. If a notified body withdraws its certificate the CE marking falls with it, and the 2027 Machinery Regulation reshapes when their involvement is required.
