GLOSSARY

CE Marking

CE marking is a manufacturer’s own declaration that machinery meets the EU’s essential health and safety requirements.

For most machinery it is self-certification, evidenced by a risk assessment, technical file and Declaration of Conformity, with notified bodies involved only for listed high-risk types. Great Britain now recognises CE marking indefinitely, and a word of caution from the audit floor: the mark alone is no proof the machine is actually safe.
