GLOSSARY

Lockout Tagout (LOTO)

Lockout tagout is the procedure of isolating a machine’s energy sources and locking them off so it cannot start while someone is working on it.

It covers every energy source, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, gravity and anything stored in springs or accumulators, with each person fitting their own lock and tag. Proving the machine dead before work starts is the step that saves lives.
