GLOSSARY

PUWER

PUWER, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, governs how work equipment is selected, used, maintained and inspected in service within Great Britain.

It applies to just about anything used at work, with duties on employers and anyone who controls equipment: kit must be suitable, maintained, inspected according to risk and used by trained people. Where CE and UKCA marking cover a machine’s supply, PUWER covers the rest of its working life; Knox Thomas offers a free PUWER app and checklist for assessments.
