Residual risk is the risk left over once all your control measures are in place, and it decides whether a machine is acceptable to run or needs further work.
It is calculated by re-scoring severity and likelihood after controls are applied. Zero risk does not exist on real machinery, so the aim is a level that is tolerable, understood by operators and covered in the instructions and training.
