GLOSSARY

Stop Category

Stop categories, defined in EN 60204-1, describe how a machine’s stop function deals with power and associated machine movements: cut it at once, brake first, or keep it on.

Category 0 removes power immediately for an uncontrolled stop, Category 1 brakes under power then cuts it, and Category 2 keeps power on and is for operational stops only, never emergency stops. Risk assessment picks between 0 and 1; think falling loads and run-down.
