GLOSSARY

Interlocked Guard

An interlocked guard is a movable guard wired to the machine’s safety controls: open it and the hazardous movement stops until the guard is closed again and the machine restarted.

Where the machine takes time to run down, guard locking holds the door shut until movement has stopped. Trap key systems do a similar job mechanically: the key that cuts the power is the only key that opens the guard.
